Oser Kokesch was a Zionist activist, born in Brody in 1859. After graduating with a law degree from the University of Vienna, Kokesch – together with Smolensky, Birnbaum and Bierer – was one of the founders of “Kadima”, a Jewish nationalistic student union. In 1890, “Kadima” published its first Zionist compilation, “Admath Jeschurun”. Kokesch was among Herzl’s staunchest followers and played an active role in setting up the first World Jewish Congress. He was involved in organizing the following six Congresses as well. Kokesch passed away in Vienna in 1905.
