Magistrate building on the Rynek square . The Jews of Kolomyia took an active part in the social and political life of the city. At the municipal elections of 1873 14 Jewish candidates were elected to the Magistrate council and after the elections of 1878 Jews became a majority of the Council members. In the period between 1878 to 1895 the mayor of the city was a local Jewish lawyer named Maximilian Trachtenberg.
