Burshtyn is a town, on the river Gnilya Lipa (a tributary of the Dniester), 52 km north from Ivano-Frankivsk. See a map

Burshtyn was mentioned for the first time in 1436 as Nove Selo, since the 17th century the town is named Burshtyn. Jewish first came to Burshtyn probably at the beginning of the 17th Century.
