Josef Sigall was a painter, born in Brody in 1891. Having graduated from the gymnasium in Lviv in 1909, he moved to Vienna, where he gained his art degree. Between 1909 and 1915, Sigall was a gold medalist of the Royal Academy of Arts. He also studied art in Munich during 1913-1914. Sigall became famous for painting portraits of renowned people: King George VI, William II, U.S. President Coolidge. At the beginning of 1920s, he emigrated to the United States of America, where he continued painting portraits of famous politicians (like Roosevelt) and their families. In 1926, Josef Sigall moved to Argentina, only to return to the States by the end of that year. Upon returning to the US, he resided for a while in Los Angeles, before finally settling in Saratoga. He died in 1952.
